Steven D. Sonenreich

Steven D. Sonenreich, President and Chief Executive Officer, joined Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach, Florida, in 1976. After serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from 1990 to 1996, Mr. Sonenreich became the Chief Executive Officer of Cedars Medical Center in Miami, Florida. In November 2001, Mr. Sonenreich returned to Mount Sinai Medical Center and became its President and Chief Executive Officer. Under Mr. Sonenreich’s leadership, Mount Sinai was named as one of America’s Top Hospitals in Geriatric Medicine for five consecutive years by U.S. News and World Report, and has been nationally recognized by IBM Watson Health as a 100 Top Hospital for both 2018 and 2019.

Mr. Sonenreich spearheaded Mount Sinai’s affiliation with Columbia University, New York, New York, creating The Mount Sinai Columbia University Divisions of Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Urology and Orthopedics. Additionally, he oversaw a transformational expansion of the medical center, with the opening of a new freestanding emergency center in Hialeah in 2018, followed by the unveiling of a 154-bed state-of-the-art surgical tower and emergency center in 2019.

He was honored as Citizen of the Year by the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce in 2012. He served as chair of the Florida Hospital Association Board of Trustees in 2013; and has been a member of the board of The Safety Net Hospital Alliance of Florida since 2005. Mr. Sonenreich earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton and a Master of Business Administration and Certification in Healthcare Administration from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida.
